監査意見とは、証券取引所に上場されている有価証券の発行会社その他政令で定めるものは、証券取引法の規定により提出する貸借対照表、損益計算書その他財務書類について会計監査人の監査証明を受けなければならない（証券取引法193条の2第1項）ことになっていますが、この監査に関する監査報告書が有価証券報告書等に添付されることになり、その中で会計監査人により表明される意見のことをいいます。 （株式用語辞典より）
